Hon Sec Report - AGM MAY 2003

This has been a very frustrating year, for the first time in some years, a fixture list was sorted out prior to the start of the season, but due to various circumstances, The Fireman's Strikes, the Uncertainty over the Gulf, and the Gulf war, mixed with apathy and Bloody mindedness, we only got to play one International on the appointed date. Although the results of the Internationals was not what we would have hoped for, there is room for optimism, with the new influx of players, who , whilst losing, they tried and on occasions matched both opponents for long periods.

There was more bad news following the English match at Wrexham, when Mark Kendall stood down as manager, due to future work commitments, and this was further compounded with the news that Bruce Brown for personal reasons also stated he was unable to continue with us. This therefore leaves us with the situation of having to advertise the position of Manager of the W.P.F.A., and hold interviews during the next month or so, in order to appoint him well before the start of next season.

Anyone interested should send their details with a covering letter to the Secretary, to arrive by no later than 30th May 2003.

A sub committee should be appointed now to view the applications and if necessary produce a short list of 3 for interview by the Committee as soon as possible after the closing date.

My thanks to anyone who has assisted me throughout the year, particularly Committee Members Brian Beattie, Paul Phillips, Ray Davies, Mike Lewis and Bruce Brown. The Secretary David Rhodes and Phil Bennett & the catering staff at Wrexham F.C. and Anthony & Jacqui of Merthyr Football Club.

Once again this season, we have struggled for assistance on the Committee from serving police officers, in fact, the Chairman was the only serving officer on the committee to make any contribution. The Association can not continually rely on retired officers to organise things for them, so pull your fingers out and Help us to go forward. We have plans in place to try and secure the financial future of the Association, but players must make more of a contribution, not only on the park, but off it as well, by joining the 100 club, and securing adverts for inclusion in match programmes.

Could someone who is honestly interested in becoming Secretary next year, please act as my Assistant Secretary this year, and hopefully you will feel confident enough to act as Secretary next year. Please also note that next season & in subsequent seasons, the Trophy competition will be played, as directed by this committee.
